  • Analog Thermostat for Egg Incubators ثرموستات مفاقس ممتاز تناظري

Since the 80s I have been using this analog thermostat for fully automatic small home egg incubators. This thermostat is designed to keep an area at a (user defined) constant temperature, in this case 37,5 Degrees. Through this thermostat an entire space (such as an egg incubator) can be kept at the same temperature. The biggest advantages of this system is the energy-saving, protects the heating element and has a high accuracy. The disadvantage is reaching the designated point is logarithmic (requires some startup time). Because of these (dis)advantages I recommend this only to (semi-)automatic incubators. The most important thing to note is that the heat sink of the mosfet is part of the heating element, so it must be placed inside the incubator.

  • Adding Water to Incubator

Adding Water to Incubator In order to maintain proper humidity conditions in the incubator you have to add water to the tray in the bottom every few days. This will change as the eggs progress so should be checked daily and topped off as needed. Increased surface area increases humidity. If you add too much water on accident, you can simply cover a portion of the tray with aluminum foil to reduce exposure and drop humidity. Can also open/close top vents to help manage humidity.

Setting the first 30 eggs this year. Basic points on hatching chicken eggs. 1. Use pine/cedar shavings instead of straw in the coop. Pine/cedar shavings do not retain moisture and molds like straw does, so the coop and eggs are easier to clean and more hygienic. 2. http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL515F70A8D06985A3 Rush Lane Poultry videos show how to build a coolerbator. We used a blade-style thermostat, talked about in those vids. 3. Leave roosters in with hens at least a week before collecting fertile eggs to incubate, one rooster per 7-10 hens. 4. You can rinse off poop, but do not scrub or use soap on fertile eggs. It will remove the protective coating. 5. Setting eggs - Putting a group of eggs in an incubator on a single day so they hatch on or about the same date is called, "setting eggs." For instance, if you want to set 30 eggs and you have 10 hens, you have to collect fertile eggs over several days. Keep fertile eggs viable up to a week or so (temporarily halts embryo development) by placing eggs in cartons, fat end up, in a cooler with a milk jug full of ice. This keeps the cooler about the right temp and humidity. A refrigerator is too cold. "Turn" eggs twice per day by placing a block under one end of cartons so they are tilted. Move the block to the other end of the cartons to tilt eggs the other way. Move the block at least twice per day, and ideally every 3-4 hours. 6. Choose the best eggs to incubate. No cracks, deformities, or eggs that are too large or little. Pick the best for perpetuating your flock. 7. Chicken eggs take 21 days to hatch at 99.5 degrees Fahrenheit. If you set them on a Monday, they hatch on a Monday. However, some will hatch a day or two early, some a day or two late. A couple of custard cups full of water in the incubator will provide enough humidity. I keep humidity at about 45% with good results. 8. Chicks can be moved to a separate container after hatching that is the same temperature as the incubator. A brooder, your bathtub in a warm bathroom, even a tote covered with screen for ventilation can work. Use a heat lamp, waterer with marbles (so they don't drown themselves), and feed. Do Not Use Newspaper or any slippery surface, or wood chips or straw at this stage. Old terrycloth towels work good, although you're going to have to accept the fact you're going to be running poopy old towels through your washer. Chicks are susceptible to "Splints," a fatal condition where they do the splits and destroy their hips and even sever arteries. They need a traction surface. In a couple of weeks chicks won't need so much babysitting and can go outside to a protected area.

You want 45-50% humidity for day 1-18, then 65% for the last few days. Select clean, even shaped, undamaged eggs for incubating. If possible, do not store them too long pre-incubation. Ideally eggs should be set within a week after being laid and after 10 days the hatch-ability of the eggs drops significantly. 13 watt CFL bulb Hot water heater thermostat 1/2" wire mesh computer fan Thermometer (temp/humidity)
